Steamwhistle Brewery

On Sunday we went to see the dkphotogroup exhibit at the Steam Whistle Brewery. We weren’t able to make the opening, but we thought we’d have the pleasure of a viewing at least.

Well it turns out that the only day the Steam Whistle Brewery was closed for a private event, was the day that we trudged all the way downtown, paid $14 for parking, and didn’t wear a heavy coat.

So we didn’t get a chance to see any of their photos, but we did get a chance to roam around the neighbourhood and take some pictures – this, of course, being one of them.

Hopefully this weekend we’ll be able to get down there again and have a look at some pics.

Sean and Photomat – watch for us.

Kevin Lee and meWe went to visit Kevin Lee (of fotografiklee.com) on Thursday night to see his exhibit at 52 Studios.

We enjoyed ourselves; yakked it up with Kevin, took a few pictures. I’ve known Kevin for years. He and I used to play on the same baseball team until he then became one of the coaches. Each year he’d host a team barbecue and we’d hang out til all hours of the night, yakking it up with him while he was wishing we’d go home.

His photography is a mix of delapidation and beauty… old, decrepit buildings with a beautiful model inside. The juxtaposition is very interesting. The show is called Unauthorized Entry – Soft Forms in Hard Places. If you get a chance go see his exhibit at #111 – 52 St Lawrence Street, Toronto. Visitors are welcome any weekend during the month of May.

I’ll post some of the pictures I took in my flickr account.

Name Dropping

// May 3rd, 2006 // No Comments » // Just Stuff

What’s with people “casually mentioning” the important, famous people that run in their circles? Is that said to impress us? Are we supposed to think that the name droppers are now important because they know these famous (somewhat famous) people?
,
I’ve now met a couple of people who do this. And each time, my sarcastic self thinks, “who are you and why would all these famous people be hanging out with you?”. But of course I don’t know how much hanging out there is, or whether this is more of a ‘I’ve met them and now I can mention that I know them’ kind of situation.

Either way, it bugs me.
