Kablooey for the job interview

// August 27th, 2005 // No Comments » // Just Stuff

On Thursday I had another job interview, this time at the Sunnybrook-Osler Centre for Prehospital Care. I met with Bryan Pett for approximately half an hour to 45 minutes and let me tell you what a useless interview that one was.

First off, I should mention that I did not get the job, even though there were two jobs there that I could have run circles around, he hired me for neither. And not only didn’t he hire me, but he wasn’t at all interested in seeing me for a second interview. It would be interesting to find out what his thinking was, but of course I got no feedback from him via the agency or directly.

I should point out that he sat in front of a window with open blinds. I don’t know if that was a psychological move on his part to have stripes of light beaming in on my face, or whether this guy just didn’t know any better.

He told me that theirs was a line organization, where even the head guy knew the names of all the staff, and that they directly interacted with one another. I have to wonder why he’d tell me this as if speaking with all levels of staff down is an accomplishment. It sounds to me like a line-up organization.

I had to sit, sucking Halls Centres during the interview since I was just getting over a cold and didn’t want to cough all through it. I don’t know if that bothered Mr. Pett. I don’t really know what he thought.

But there was a point in the interview where he asked me to name 3 of my areas of needed improvement. I was a little shocked at that. I don’t have three areas in need of improvement; at least not as far as work goes. I was desperately trying to come up with one area of improvement but, quite frankly, since I’ve got so much experience behind me, and so much continual learning, I’m bringing quite a lot of knowledge to the table in the areas in which I work. Name it, I’ve probably done it (and learned how to do it well).

I don’t think it sat well with this guy that I couldn’t come up with something. But I do think that perhaps he should look to another source for his interview questions.

FloodNormally, this is a park by my place.

After yesterday’s rain, this looks more like a lake with trees growing out of it.

I happened to be driving by from the grocery store, stuck in traffic, and took a look around.

Funny what a little rain will do.

And we’re supposed to get more. Let’s hope it’s not so “tornado-like” as yesterday’s was.

All for Punishment

Back on August 6th I wrote about how dangerous this city was becoming.

Well as of last night, there have been 45 killings in Toronto already, and I think they said that 31 of those had been gun related.

I don’t know what to make of it, except that I am all in favour of capital punishment. I think that stronger punishment of criminals might work as a deterrent to others thinking of using the same type of violence. And if it doesn’t, who cares… at least the criminals get the punishment they deserve.
